The Wines
Yo El Rey is produced in South Africa. I don't own a vineyard, and so source grapes from trusted farmers around the Cape winelands who take pride in the way they farm, and who are working to minimise their impact on the soils and environment.
I make small batches of wines out of a shared cellar space in Hemel-en-Aarde, working in a low intervention style, both in the vineyards and in the winery. All of the fruit is purchased from farmers around the Western Cape, and as of the 2023 vintage, all of that fruit is now farmed without any chemicals. The aim is to produce honest and fresh wines, that are unfussy, without additives. Most of all, I want to make wines that I am excited about drinking and sharing.
